4 Hymns You Should Sing During Lent

Updated: Mar 21, 2019

Lent is a season of contemplation.

A season where we look at our sin, our mortality, our humanity, and the cross.

Sounds fun right?

Well it does to me, but I may be the strange sort of worship leader who'd rather play a somber reflective song than a celebratory one.

Some of my favorite hymns of all time are "Lenten" hymns. I love the contemplative nature of Lent hymns, and it's always fun to throw some minor keys in worship once in a while.

If you are not weird like me and are having trouble finding good reflective songs for the season of Lent, or are just looking for some new (old) tunes to bring something extra to your Lenten services, then look no further.

These are my four favorite hymns to use during the season of Lent.

Stricken Smitten and Afflicted

O Sacred Head Now Wounded

Man of Sorrows

The Wondrous Cross

I hope these hymns can provide some inspiration as you plan your Lent worship services. You can find more hymns for Lent here on Reawaken Hymns, and for more worship leading ideas during Lent, check out 5 Lent Worship Ideas.

A thoughtful collection of hymns for the Lenten season. Music has a unique way of deepening reflection and faith. After moments of quiet reflection, I enjoy unwinding with golf hit unblocked for a bit of light entertainment.
